British Rum, Spiced Rum, or Silver Rum? A No-Nonsense Buying Guide

Right, if you've landed here because you Googled "British rum" or "small batch rum UK," here's the honest answer. British rum means we actually ferment, distil and mature it here in the UK. Not imported by the tanker load and bottled with a Union Jack slapped on the front. It's a genuine difference, and it's the whole reason we started Lazydog in the first place.

So here's a proper rundown of what we make, written by us rather than a marketing team, because we don't have one of those.

Silver Rum, for cocktails

Our Silver Rum is just molasses, water, yeast and time. Nothing added, nothing to hide behind. If you're making mojitos or a rum and coke, or fancy experimenting behind your own bar, start here. It's won awards for a reason, and it mixes better than anything else we make.

Spiced Rum, for the colder months

This one starts life as our Silver Rum, then we infuse it with a proper spice blend and let it rest on oak. No artificial colouring in it, no added sugar either, which is more than you can say for a lot of the spiced rums on supermarket shelves. Good on its own, better with ginger ale, best by an actual fire.

Sloe Rum, the one that catches people out

Most people assume we mean sloe gin. We don't. Our Sloe Rum uses sloes we pick by hand within two miles of the distillery, and it picked up a Great Taste Award last year. Rich and fruity with a bit of tartness to it. Worth a try even if you think you already know what to expect.

Honey and Cherry Rum Liqueurs, for gifting

Our Honey Rum Liqueur and Cherry Rum Liqueur are lower proof and sweeter, and they're a good way in if rum has never really been your thing. Both work nicely in a hot toddy or an espresso martini, and either makes a far better present than another bottle of the usual spiced rum.

Which one should you buy

Honestly, it depends what you're after. Cocktails at home, go for Silver. Something warming, go Spiced. Bored of standard spiced rum, try Sloe. Buying a gift or introducing someone to rum, go Honey or Cherry Liqueur.

Every bottle is fermented, distilled and bottled by hand here in Leicestershire. No imported base spirit, no shortcuts, just us doing it properly.

Please drink responsibly.
